Roberto Diaz Cabrera was born on July 7th, 1955 in La Habana, Cuba. Cabrera's instruction on art began through his father who was a painter, cartoonist, journalist, and poet.
In 1961, while in second grade, Cabrera wins an art contest, but it wasn't until 1969 that he enrolls to study plastic arts with Rodriguez Diez and Enrique Maza. A year later, his father takes him to Santiago de Cuba to study graphic arts in the Institute of Polygraphic Arts. Starting in 1970, his work starts to be acquired by family and friends who were interested in his expressions. It was through them that works such as El Calendabro (1970), Las Orquídeas (1970), El Torero (1971), and Un Rayo para María (1971) position themselves en various private collections.
